About the TRE™ Extended Studies Program

The TRE™ Extended Studies Program is a structured post-certification pathway for Certified TRE Providers who want to deepen and broaden their personal TRE practice, develop a wider and deeper range of facilitation skills, and support a wider range of tremoring, autonomous movement, and developmental processes over time.

You will find all information about the TRE Extended Studies Program on this page,

What you will develop

A broader embodied TRE practice

You will gain personal experience with tremoring and movement in different positions and through more areas of the body. Repeated practice also helps you notice your own preferences, habitual movement patterns, areas that participate easily, areas that remain less involved, and how you respond when unfamiliar movement emerges.

More flexible facilitation

You will develop greater ability to recognise positional and directional impulses, support transitions, adjust positions and exercises, work with different levels of intensity, and respond to the individual person rather than relying mainly on a standard TRE sequence.
An important theme is learning when to provide guidance and when to allow the process to organise itself.

Facilitate development over series of sessions

The training also explores how TRE facilitation can evolve across a series of sessions, going deeper with the exercises and providing variation, rather than repeating essentially the same basic introductory format each time.
You will learn to create gradual progression while maintaining grounding, autonomy, choice, pacing, and responsiveness to the individual or group.

Recognising broader autonomic release

TRE Extended Studies A and B also introduce a broader perspective on autonomic release beyond tremoring alone. This can include changing patterns of breathing, contraction and expansion, vocalisation, emotional expression, pushing, reaching, turning, protective movements, coughing or retching-like responses, and other spontaneous bodily processes.

Training modules and work requirements

The program consists of two main modules, A and B. These modules are each designed to be completed over approximately six months per module.

Participants then complete the personal practice, applied work, video requirements, and other certification requirements for the Autonomic Flow Facilitator Certification at the pace appropriate for their own professional practice and life circumstances.

Completion leads to certification as a Certified Autonomic Flow Facilitator™.

The training combines recorded courses with live integration sessions, mentoring and practice groups, individual guidance, applied work with individuals or groups, reflective documentation, video-based learning and feedback, and a final certification review.

TRE Extended Studies A

TRE Extended Studies A focuses primarily on how tremoring can be facilitated and supported in a broader range of positions, in order to better follow the natural flow of the body’s movement and choose positions that support the unfolding autonomic tremor and movement process. Positions explored in this part include standing, sitting, and side lying on the floor, as well as transitions between positions.

Developing a broader repertoire of positions in which to tremor and facilitate tremoring allows for a more flexible, body-led approach to facilitation. It supports the ability to follow the body more fluently, recognise the movements the body is indicating or attempting to make, support movement flows and transitions, and understand how different positions can either facilitate or limit these processes.

TRE Extended Studies B

TRE Extended Studies B continues this development by focusing more specifically on including more areas of the body in tremoring, movement, and release. This includes further work with the upper body, hands and feet, as well as the head, including the face, jaw, eyes, mouth, nose, throat, and related areas.

Together, A and B are intended to help providers develop a broader and more autonomous embodied personal TRE practice, greater sensitivity to the body’s autonomic tremor and movement flows, and a wider and more flexible range of facilitation skills.

In the TRE Extended Studies Program, autonomic refers to non-voluntary physiological processes such as neurogenic tremoring, spontaneous movement, changes in breathing, and other forms of release. Autonomous refers to the participant’s self-direction, choice, boundaries, and internal authority. The training seeks both to support autonomic processes and to facilitate them in a way that strengthens personal autonomy.

Trainer and Mentor Development

Opportunities to develop as a TRE Extended Studies Trainer or Mentor are also available by application or request after certification as a Autonomic Flow Facilitator. This pathway is intended for experienced TRE Providers with strong teaching and facilitation skills, and may be particularly relevant for those who want to support participants locally, work in other languages, or already have an established network of interested providers.

About the Trainer – Hans Holter Solhjell

Hans Holter Solhjell

I am a TRE™ Global Certification Trainer and have been teaching TRE since 2010. My work draws on more than 30 years of experience with body-oriented learning, movement, personal development and trauma-related practice.

My practice and certifications in Somatic Experiencing, the Feldenkrais Method, Communicology and the Sounder Sleep System also influence the way I understand and teach TRE.

My background with a master degree in pedagogy and educational science shapes how I teach. I bring together practical experience, theory and reflection in a structured learning process, with room for questions, individual differences and learning over time.

I have been active in the global TRE community for a decade and  have extensive experience supporting TRE providers after certification through mentoring groups and teaching advanced TRE – in depth courses. And also  organising a series of online TRE talks (available on Youtube) and training new TRE trainers.

I have also developed the first globally available postgraduate certification training for TRE providers, focusing on practical facilitation and deepening the release process through an approach I call Autonomic Flow Facilitation. The post certification training leads to the title Certified Autonomic Flow Facilitator.

As a participant in my Global TRE provider certification training, you will draw on my depth of experience to support both your personal process and your professional development with TRE, and benefit from my further developments of the basic TRE format.

Further, I have developed practical teaching models and frameworks, including the PLS Regulation Support Framework and the Response Funnel. I also create visual guides, learning materials and recorded courses to support participants’ practice and understanding. As a training participant, you receive access to several of these resources for use in your personal practice and your work with clients.

You can download two of these models on my webpage,

The TRE visual guide The Response Funnel Model

The Response Funnel Model is also translated to several languages,

https://oppmerksombevegelse.no/response-funnel-model-in-different-languages/

Alongside teaching TRE and mentoring TRE providers, I work with adults in body-oriented learning and trauma-related practice, and with parents, kindergartens and schools on communication, conflict resolution and regulation support.
