Led by Alex Greene & Svava Brooks Three 2-day modules · April, May & August 2027
Prerequisite: One personal TRE™ session is required before Module 1 (waived if you’ve attended a TRE™ class within the last 12 months). Attendance at all three modules and completion of all supervision is mandatory.
“The inner development of compassion, caring and sensitivity to the pain of humanity emerges as a result of recovering from one’s own painful experiences of life.”
Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE™) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Created by David Berceli, PhD, TRE™ activates a natural reflexive shaking or vibrating response that releases muscular tension and calms the nervous system.
This internationally recognized certification training prepares you to safely and skillfully facilitate TRE™ with individuals and groups. Delivered across three 2-day modules — supported by personal sessions, mentorship and supervised practice — you’ll move from deepening your own practice to confidently guiding others.
What You’ll Learn
Module 1 · Foundations of TRE™ & Establishing Your Personal Practice
Our relationship to stress — the stress–trauma continuum and the triune brain
The role of the nervous system — autonomic nervous system, polyvagal theory, the freeze response
The mind–body connection and “bottom-up” approaches
Trauma recovery and Dr. Berceli’s humanitarian work
The natural power of TRE™ and the neurogenic tremor reflex
Self-regulation in TRE™ and building resilience
Module 2 · Learning to Work With Individuals
Understanding tremors — categories, recognition and meaning
Tremoring & the body — spinal and myofascial pattern changes
Regulating the TRE™ experience and adapting for accessibility
Module 3 · Learning to Work With Groups
The business of TRE™ — insights from experienced providers
Facilitating a healthy practice — group structure and transference dynamics
Safety in groups, grounded in polyvagal theory
Program Flow
The certification unfolds over three 2-day modules, typically completed within 12 to 18 months. Module 1 is held in person in Reykjavík; Modules 2 and 3 are delivered live via Zoom. Alongside the modules you’ll complete one personal session before you begin, four private one-on-one sessions after Module 1, and a structured program of supervision — including personal, individual-leading and group supervision, plus a final checkout.
Independent study runs throughout: a book review, 40 journaling sessions, four peer swaps, video study, and practice-teaching videos with feedback. Together these weave learning, embodiment and supervised practice into a complete path to certification.
